Tractor Steering And Rear Lifting Hydraulic Cylinders

Tractor steering and rear lifting hydraulic cylinders — 7 standard models covering bore 40–80 mm, rod 20–35 mm, stroke 120–200 mm and mounting distance 301–532 mm. Rear-lift models include the 800.55A.01 replacement and left/right pairs for twin-cylinder linkages; front-axle steering models use a shorter stroke for faster wheel response. Cylinder bodies are thickened alloy steel with a hardened, ground rod and a dust wiper ahead of the main seal. Send your old cylinder model or its bore, stroke and mounting distance — we confirm the matching model and return a factory quote within 24 hours.

Tractor Steering and Rear Lifting Hydraulic Cylinders — 7 Models, 40–80 mm Bore, 301–532 mm Mounting

A tractor hydraulic cylinder fails in the field for one of three reasons: the bore is too small for the lifting load, the rod seal cannot hold against dust and slurry, or the mounting distance does not match the linkage you already have. This page lists seven standard models that cover front-axle steering and rear three-point lifting on common tractor platforms, with bore, rod, stroke and mounting distance stated for each so you can match a replacement before ordering.

Model Table — Bore, Rod, Stroke and Mounting Distance

Other bore, rod, stroke and mounting distance combinations can be produced to drawing. If your linkage uses a different pin diameter or port angle, send the dimensions and we will confirm the matching cylinder before production.

Specification Summary by Function

What changes between the rear-lift and steering groups
Function Group Bore Range Rod Range Stroke Range Typical Use
Rear lifting cylinders 55 – 80 mm 32 – 35 mm 120 – 200 mm Three-point linkage, heavy implement lift, 800.55A.01 replacement
Front-axle steering cylinders 40 – 50 mm 20 – 30 mm 175 – 176 mm Hydrostatic steering on front axle, tight headland turns

Rear-lift models use a larger bore because the lifting load is carried on the cylinder rod during transport. Steering models use a smaller bore and longer stroke to give faster wheel angle change at lower flow.

What Matters When You Replace a Tractor Cylinder

01

Bore size sets the lifting force

Lifting force is bore area multiplied by hydraulic pressure. A 55 mm bore rear-lift cylinder and an 80 mm bore cylinder running on the same tractor hydraulics do not produce the same lift capacity. If you are replacing a worn cylinder and the implement has become slow to raise, check the bore and rod dimensions against the table before assuming the pump is at fault. The tractor hydraulic cylinders category page lists the wider range if none of the seven models match your linkage.

02

Rod surface and seal quality decide service life

A tractor cylinder works in dust, slurry and fertiliser spray. The rod is the first surface to suffer: once pitting starts, the lip seal cannot hold and oil weeps past the wiper. This cylinder uses a hardened, ground rod with a multi-layer anti-corrosion coating, paired with a dust wiper ahead of the main seal so abrasive particles are stopped before they reach the sealing lip. For the steering side specifically, see the steering hydraulic cylinder page.

03

Mounting distance must match the linkage, not the model name

Two cylinders can share the same bore and stroke but use different closed centres. If the mounting distance is wrong, the linkage will not reach full lift or will bottom out before the implement is raised. The table above states mounting distance for every model because that is the dimension that decides whether the cylinder bolts on. For lifting duties beyond the three-point linkage, the hydraulic lift cylinder range covers longer strokes and higher tonnage.

04

Port position and pin size are the customization points

When a tractor is older or imported, the original cylinder may no longer be available. Port angle, port thread, pin diameter and eye width can be adjusted to match the existing linkage, so the cylinder fits without modifying the tractor. Send a photo or sketch of the old cylinder with dimensions marked and we will confirm whether a standard model works or a modified one is needed. Browse the full hydraulic cylinder catalogue for other mobile and agricultural applications.

Where These Cylinders Are Used

Rear three-point lifting

Ploughs, harrows, seeders and balers carried on the rear linkage. Left and right cylinders are supplied as a pair where the tractor uses twin lift cylinders.

Front-axle steering

Hydrostatic steering on tractors that use a double-acting cylinder across the front axle. Shorter stroke, faster response, tighter turning radius at the headland.

OEM replacement

Direct replacement for 800.55A.01 and common HSG-series part numbers. Mounting distance and port position checked against the original before dispatch.

Custom agricultural builds

Specialty harvesters, sprayers and loaders that need a non-standard bore, stroke or rod end. Produced to drawing with the same seal and rod treatment.

Match a Cylinder to Your Tractor Linkage

Send the model number, or the bore, rod, stroke and mounting distance from your old cylinder. We will confirm the matching model, check port and pin dimensions, and return a factory-direct quote — usually within 24 hours. Custom bore and stroke are available on request.
