How to Use the Screw Gear

Screw gears are mainly used to transmit power between two non-parallel, staggered shafts, with a common angle of 90°. A notable feature of this type of gear is the inclined tooth surface. The teeth are not in linear contact, but point contact or bevel contact, which makes them quieter and less vibrating during operation, and suitable for medium and low speed mechanical structures with noise requirements.


In actual use, the first step is to confirm that the installation position is consistent with the axis angle. Especially when used in printing equipment, twisting machines or medical delivery systems, angle deviation will cause poor meshing or howling. Secondly, a pair of screw gears with matching modules, helix angles, and numbers of teeth must be selected to ensure normal transmission. The rotation direction of the gears also needs to be used in pairs, generally a left-right combination, and cannot be mixed.


In terms of lubrication, due to the small contact area of the tooth surface and concentrated friction, it is recommended to use grease or oil film coverage, especially in long-term operation or heavy load occasions such as automated transmission lines and test platforms. For equipment with high positioning accuracy requirements (such as semiconductor handling mechanisms), models with fine grinding processes can be selected to reduce meshing clearance and improve repeated positioning capabilities.


In addition, it is not recommended to use screw gears for reversible transmission occasions because they do not have symmetrical meshing capabilities. If forced to run in both directions, it will increase wear and even cause tooth skipping, affecting service life.
